3GPP logo 3rd Generation Partnership Project

3GPP prepares, approves and maintains Specifications for mobile telecommunications systems. Their technical work is split into four major areas; 'Radio Access Network', 'Service & Systems Aspects', 'Core Network & Terminals' and the legacy 'GSM EDGE Radio Access Network'. Details of these groups and links to the free specifications can be found at www.3gpp.org/. At ICIN 2009 we expect 3GPP LTE to be a major talking point, as last year, with operators and vendors expressing a growing confidence in the standard and the evolutionary path towards 4G.

The Broadband Forum mission is to develop the full potential of broadband. With the recent union with the IP/MPLS Forum, the Broadband Forum is now the central body for next generation IP network specifications. This organization, comprising an enlarged 220 strong membership of most of the world's leading service providers, equipment manufacturers, chip vendors and other key organizations, defines and facilitates next generation networks for local broadband access, mobile backhaul, business services, IPTV, gaming and other applications, and is poised to address further developments as they arise. The SIP Forum is an IP communications industry association that engages in numerous activities that advance and promote SIP technology, such as the development of industry recommendations, the SIPit interoperability and testing events, special interoperability workshops, and general promotion of SIP in the industry. One of the Forum's recent technical activities is the development of the SIPconnect Technical Recommendation – a standards-based recommendation that provides detailed guidelines for direct IP peering and interoperability between IP PBXs and VoIP service provider networks, and the SIPconnect Compliant Certification Program through which eligible companies can gain SIPconnect validation and the right to license the use of the SIP Forum's 'SIPconnect Compliant' certification mark – the official brand of the leading standard for SIP Trunking products and services.
